Each FOLK begins just as a single mark.
Drawn randomly. Then doodling away until, when, then, a stroke finds its story, and shapes fall into character.

Finding something.

By not looking for it.

Between the Lines

I found there’s incredible joy in leaning into the serendipity of drawing without a plan, this place of not-knowing-ness, purely reacting subconsciously, letting go of any formal goal. To just follow the guidance of the last drawn stroke, with no conventional rhyme or reason.

Yet somehow, between the lines, I “recognise” each FOLK that emerges. Every single one strikes a tone that I cherish, which would have been impossible to find if I had pre-meditated them beforehand.

I also like that this process forces their meaning to stay open. Every viewer of the work connects with them through their own set of chords. It’s nice to think about, that each FOLK continues their serendipitous journey with every new person they meet.
